Bird Festival 2018 in Sacile

The Bird Festival (Sagra dei Osei) in Sacile, in province of Pordenone, takes place every year the first Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption (15th August).

This year the Bird Festival, one of the most historical Italian and european festival that has reached the 745th edition, will take place on Sunday 19th August 2018. But there are different events and activities will extend also before and after this date.

It was founded in 1274 as a market: it was not organized and it was repeated annually for the tacit intervention of breeders of birds and local craftsmen (manufacturers of cages, horsehair laces, nets and birdlimes).

Over the years the market became one of the most important poultry european event in which we can admire thousands of aviary and ornamental birds.

During the day there will be the the famous song contest, in which the best singer for each canaries’s categories (exotic, individual canaries, group of canaries, hybrid) will be elected as “Tordo Nazionale”, the competition of “chioccolatori” in which excellent imitators will reproduce the song of birds, the exhibition of courtyard animals, and much more.

Also new this year will be the laser show “Luci sul Livenza” (Lights on Livenza), the performance by flag-wavers and archers and Luna Park Vintage during the day of Saturday 18th August.

The super news of this year is “La piccola Venezia” (The small Venice): during the weekend it will be possible to do tour guides on gondolas along the Livenza river.
